Filipino Intermedia Artist & Media Practitioner
Jazel Kristin is an intermedia artist and a filmmaker based in Manila, Philippines. She fuses her passion for music, video and still photography to bring viewers into her unique universe.
Her artworks and video installations have been locally exhibited at the Silverlens Galleries, Alliance Francaise de Manille, Blanc Gallery, Secret Fresh, UP Vargas Museum, Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), CASA San Miguel and VOCAS in the Philippines. Internationally, her work has been showcased at the Hong Kong Art Fair, MJC Aubagne, Centre les Recollets, Les Lumieres and Cite des Arts in France. Aside from numerous TV interviews, Jazel Kristin has been featured in I-MAG Photography Magazine, as well as in French publications.
She has collaborated with local and international artists of different disciplines for her video installation, “I Consume therefore I Am”, which had live musical performances in Paris & Montmorency, France, Baguio, Zambales and Manila, Philippines. In 2010, Jazel Kristin was invited by the Mairie de Paris as a resident artist at the prestigious Cite Internationale des Arts in Paris, France. Last July 2015, she was the curator and a participating artist of “IN TRANSIT”, a group exhibition at the Cultural Center of the Philippines. Here, the artworks of the participating artists and musicians showed the result of a passage from point A > the inspiration (video form), to middle point B > which is the creative process (auditory form), to point C > the final output (varied visual art media).
As a filmmaker, she made the behind-the-scene documentary of FILIPINAS, shown at CCP. In 2014, Jazel Kristin shot, wrote and edited her personal documentary “Kailangang Umalis Para Makabalik” (One Must Leave In order To Return), which premiered on Philippine TV. Jazel Kristin previously worked behind the scenes as an editor and director of television documentaries for 15 years – from award winning TV shows of Probe Productions, to notable News and Public Affairs programs aired on GMA Network (Channel 7). She occasionally gives lectures on visual storytelling and does visual consultation work. Now, she is following her heART as a full-time artist.
